Example screen image when failing

Forwarding this bug from a Canonical reporter:
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-driver-ati/+bug/324234

Selecting the first VT (ctl-alt-F1) results in flashing garbage on screen, and sometimes (one in three tests) a freeze.

Attached logs are from the first reboot after the freeze.

gdm log, showing error messages

The gdm log shows some xserver output which might be relevant...

invalid output device for dac detection
in RADEONProbeOutputModes
...
Unblank CRTC 0 success
error setting MTRR (base = 0xc0000000, size = 0x20000000, type = 1) Invalid argument (22)

Xorg.0.log.old

Nothing obviously interesting in either Xorg.0.log but attaching them for completeness.
