Something I did seems to have screwed up permissions somewhere, to judge by the error message:

> Loading extension GLX
> Unable to open display lock file.
> Unable to claim display lock
> (EE)
> Fatal server error:
> (EE) xf86OpenConsole: VT_ACTIVATE failed: Permission denied
> (EE)
> (EE)
> Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support
> at http://wiki.x.org
> for help.
> (EE) Please also check the log file at "/tmp/Xorg.crouton.1.log" for additional information.
> (EE)
> (EE) Server terminated with error (1). Closing log file.
> /usr/bin/xinit: giving up
> /usr/bin/xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused
> /usr/bin/xinit: server error

Unfortunately, I don't know the path to where it wants to create or open this file, so I can't check permissions or otherwise proceed. I created a whole new chroot to see if that fixed the problem, but to my considerable surprise it did not!

Although (judging by the results of searching the web for the above error messages) something like this seems to have happened to a number of people before, I haven't been able to find a resolution to any of those reports.

Any help appreciated; attached is the Xorg.crouton.1.log file.
