Description Joshua H. 2017-11-29 00:54:33 UTC
Hi Libinput Team,
I'm begging you guys please add a method to disable the three finger tap middle klick option if having tap ro click enabled. I'm using a L450 thing pad and the touchpad is absolutely unusable with tap to klick enabled but if disabled I'm losing elementary features. While scrolling it happens alway that I past in via three finger tap. It destroyed already a lot of coding work. I always have to disable while coding and browsing(opens 40+ tabs while scrolling sometimes) tap to click, but I need it simultaneously. Please just let me disable three finger to middle because my thinkpad has a hardware middle but so I don't need it anyways.

This sound very much like: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1482640

Hi Peter,
I checked that bug. It looks like the guy has some similar problems but actually is not having the problem with the middle klick rather than with the right-klick. Also I just want the ability to disable three finger tap. I never use it and It gives me tons of bugs. I already read in a lot of Forums about people with similar problems. There is this guy who only wants to enable the three finger touch and not having the other ones enabled.
.conf solution is welcome, I don't need some king of gui or anything.
Greetings from Germany!

P.s. I don't want to kill the three finger tapping feature, I just want to disable it as a tapping method, because (like I said) my thinkpad has a hardware key for that.
Greetings!

I use Arch with libinput 1.9.2 btw. I can not chose that from the drop-down version menu...
Comment 6 Peter Hutterer 2017-11-30 01:34:22 UTC
Looks like the version field doesn't populate correctly, but tbh I never noticed because I usually look in the comments for the version :)

Please read:
https://wayland.freedesktop.org/libinput/doc/latest/faq.html#faq_configuration

The main question is *why* do you get these middle clicks. Accidentally tapping with three fingers should not be an issue. So this is either a hardware/kernel issue or a libinput finger detection issue.

Please *attach* an evemu-record of a sequence that triggers a spurious tap.

evemu_desc

and the .desc file.
Comment 9 Peter Hutterer 2017-12-03 10:04:53 UTC
no need for a .desc file, it's been obsolete for a few years now, a normal recording includes everything.

you need to select the right event node, please select your touchpad, thanks.

I dont know how to select the touchpad. I know that lidswitch was wrong... I did the tutorial and checked /proc/bus/input/devices. The HANDLERS line said event0... and that was lidswitch
Comment 11 Peter Hutterer 2017-12-03 23:14:39 UTC
just run sudo evemu-record without any arguments and it lists all devices. Then select the one that sounds like your touchpad.

After Kernel upgrade I didnt had much more issues...I will reopen this bug if the bugs appear again but for nw it is fixed...
