Description Luke Yelavich 2008-01-05 18:20:36 UTC
When attempting to start X, either with startx, or attempting to load gdm, X fails to load, due to not being able find valid modes, according to the log. Machine specs are as follows: Mac Mini G4 1.42Ghz, 512MB RAM ATI Radeon 9200 with 32MB video RAM. The mini only has a DVI connector, and is connected via the DVI to VGA adapter through a KVM. lspci output: 0000:00:10.0 VGA compatible controller : ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200] [1002:5962] (rev 01) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200] [1002:5962] Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- Status: Cap+ 66MHz+ UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- Latency: 255 (2000ns min), Cache Line Size: 32 bytes Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 48 Region 0: Memory at 98000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M] Region 1: I/O ports at 0400 [size=256] Region 2: Memory at 90000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K] Expansion ROM at f1000000 [size=128K] Capabilities: <access denied> Will attach xorg.conf, and the xorg log file. Will also follow up to the report after testing a direct monitor connection to the mini via VGA, and then directly via DVI.

When connecting my monitor to the mac mini directly with DVI, or VGA to DVI, X loads. This is with the latest code from git. It seems my KVM does not allow for DDC/resolution monitor probing, and even with resolutions and refresh rate set in xorg.conf, X doesn't load.

I've added some default outputs to light up if nothing connected is found, please try the latest ati git (fa3e2055225c27e25465fc46786da1b7574fd3cc). This should at least get the server up for you.

Created attachment 13565 [details] [review] New xorg log. Thanks for the reply. I retrieved your update to git, and compiled. Unfortunately, same behavior. Attached is a new xorg log. xorg.conf is the same.
