Here's a patch to add status (security/bugfix/enhancement) to the smart backend for PackageKit. The flags are being set by a patch to smart that reads the updateinfo.xml file from the repodata, so they are added automatically...

PS: "backend-smart" is missing from the Component list

Would you like to commit this yourself? Then you can commit other patches to smart directly as it looks like you know what you are doing. If this is the case - please email me your public ssh key as an attachment and a chosen username and I'll add you to the commit group on the private server.
