hey??? there is anyone who can follow this bug??? the version i have right now is: libdrm_intel1-2.4.20-1mdv2010.1 x11-driver-video-intel-2.11.0-1mdv2010.1 Please follow the steps in: http://intellinuxgraphics.org/how_to_report_bug.html and if possible provide an i915_error_state following a system freeze: http://intellinuxgraphics.org/i915_error_state.html Thank you. ok, so let's start from beginning: Bug description: hi, i have a Acer Aspire 5633 (notebook) with an Intel GMA 950 graphic card. i use mandriva cooker +KDE4+KWin effects enabled. in the past i tried different DE and effects disabled but it didn't change nothing. the bug occurrs randomly during different daily tasks, 2-3 times per hour: the system hangs and the CPU stops to work (i saw it from the led) for a bunch of seconds and then it return to work. i've noticed X and Kwin processess during the hang reaches an high use of the processor (immediately when it return responsivness i launch ksysguard and i see these 2 processes using more than 20% of the capacity available). i can reproduce this bug quite easily during video playback. i915_error_state doesn't provide any informations, it is empty (after have mounted the partition, of course). if you need any other info just ask me Cheers, Marcello System environment: -- chipset: Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller -- system architecture: Linux localhost 2.6.33.4-desktop-1mnb #1 SMP i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux -- xf86-video-intel: x11-driver-video-intel-2.11.0-2mdv2010.1 -- xserver: x11-server-xorg-1.7.7-1mdv2010.1 -- mesa: mesa-demos-7.8.1-4mdv2010.1, libmesaglu1-7.8.1-4mdv2010.1, libmesagl1-7.8.1-4mdv2010.1, libmesaglut3-7.8.1-4mdv2010.1 -- libdrm: libdrm_intel1-2.4.20-2mdv2010.1, libdrm2-2.4.20-2mdv2010.1, libdrm-common-2.4.20-2mdv2010.1 -- kernel: 2.6.33.4-desktop-1mnb -- Linux distribution: Mandriva 2010.1 (cooker) -- Machine or mobo model: notebook Acer Aspire 5633 WLMi -- Display connector: VGA Reproducing steps: just simply use the system Additional info: i'm really angry about this bug, i'm messed up with it. Hmm, actually I misread your bug report. The system doesn't actually hang, but recovers? Ok, suggests the system is thrashing instead. The challenge is to work out why. If you have a second system you could ssh in and inspect the system. Most interesting would be the stack traces of all processes and what is running on the cpu during the freeze, along with the state of all allocations. what is the difference between hang and recover? anyway i don't have a second system nor the skills to do such a thing... there isn't a simpler system to fix this bug? debug packages, for istance or similar things.. In your case the system becomes unresponsive for a few seconds and then continues. More often it is the cases that the graphics subsystem becomes and remains unresponsive, and more rarely the whole system freezes. In these, the GPU has hung and we would attempt to recover the instructions that caused the hang, and from them work out the cause. In your case, we have no idea, but need to inspect the system just prior and during the freeze to work out what might be the cause. Unfortunately, there is not yet an automagic debugging package to install. i'm unlucky... and you don't have a pc with my graphic card to make a test? i haven't enough knowledges to investigate this bug.. if i have time during this summer and you'll support me, i will try to do what needed to fix it, as it is very annoying... anyway, thank you for your interesting Cheers, Marcello what should i do in detail to investigate with SSH the issue? is it possible to explain it via internet or is it too difficult to explain? thanks We never got to the bottom of the mystery freezes. Not even as much as a top to see if anything was happening at the time, let alone the likes of perf to track down any potential hangs. Without the slightest insight into the system, there is nothing I can do. |
