Krunner corruption

I have another rendering bug in KDE ;)

Steps to reproduce.
1. quit krunner (because it's only visible on first run)
> kquitapp krunner
2. start krunner
> krunner
3. press alt+F2 k runner should popup
4. type "kon"
5. you should see broken slide animation.

Input focus effect corruption

Also focus effect is sometimes corrupted in kickoff menu
Comment 2 Chris Wilson 2011-09-26 12:19:27 UTC
And for clarity, this is with compositing disabled in kwin?
Comment 3 Roman Jarosz 2011-09-26 12:20:13 UTC
Yes disabled compositing
Comment 4 Chris Wilson 2011-09-26 13:34:41 UTC
The first machine I had to hand with KDE installed was a gen3... krunner under awesome looked smooth.
Comment 5 Chris Wilson 2011-09-27 03:17:56 UTC
Put back the ubuntu disk into the 965GM, installed kde/krunner, disabled compositing, kquitapp krunner, krunner, alt-f2 + kon... Not seeing anything unusual in the animation, but the number of X Errors during startup of krunner suggests that anything you do see I'm going to discount ;-)
Comment 6 Chris Wilson 2011-09-27 03:22:36 UTC
If you xtrace krunner and let's compare if it does anything differently or see if I can identify the sequence that triggers the broken rendering.

Krunner xtrace log

1. at 0816 is krunner fully stared and hidden
2. around 2B** is k runner visible with blinking cursor
3. around 40** I've stared typing "kon" and the broken animation stared
4. around 64** the animation finished
5. around 80** I've pressed escape and closed the krunner
Comment 8 Chris Wilson 2011-11-09 12:27:06 UTC
I haven't seen anything that resembles the Krunner corruption you encountered, nor have I spotted anything odd or too unusual in the trace. :(

Can you please check occasionally against master to see if I've accidentally made any progress? Thanks.

Still can reproduce with latest git 3b9479dc39d32fd97f80c1e5e0fac67d36ee5e40, but only sometimes

Missing backgrouind on selected menu item

If I selected another item in menu for instance "New Window" the background is rendered correctly. As usual it happens only sometimes :(
Comment 12 Roman Jarosz 2011-11-26 07:55:56 UTC
Attachment 53865 [details] and 53866 was taken with debug=full, if you want you can download it from here http://algoritmy.praguesoft.cz/Xorg.0.log.bz2

Is there anything I can do to help you reproduce this. It only happens sometimes most likely when the system is under heavy load, like loading eclipse or using debug=full
Comment 13 Chris Wilson 2011-12-20 15:40:51 UTC
I think I've taken a few steps forward towards getting KDE/Qt happier. Not that I've knowingly fixed anything relating to this bug, but one can always hope!
Comment 14 Roman Jarosz 2011-12-22 04:48:24 UTC
Still no luck :(
Comment 15 Chris Wilson 2012-02-24 06:43:45 UTC
Optimistic... any luck so far?
Comment 16 Chris Wilson 2012-03-26 05:16:37 UTC
Periodic ping.
Comment 17 Roman Jarosz 2012-03-30 00:06:47 UTC
Sorry for the late reply. I don't have anymore KDE 4.7 and the animation was changed (removed) in KDE 4.8 so I can't test it right now. I will install old KDE over the weekend.
Comment 18 Roman Jarosz 2012-04-01 04:09:15 UTC
Hi, I have good news for you, (bad news for me :( ). I can reproduce the bad rendering also with UXA, so it looks like problem in KDE. IMHO I know now how to reproduce it correctly, the problem is visible only in KDE 4.7 when krunner shows (animates) only one item. If the typed string shows more result the animation is smooth.

I will check tomorrow if it also happens with NVidia card and will close this bug.
Comment 19 Chris Wilson 2012-04-01 07:19:26 UTC
Thanks for following up Roman, I can start to relax slightly then I guess. :)
Comment 20 Roman Jarosz 2012-04-02 01:22:30 UTC
Good news, it's broken also with NVidia card on different computer, so I'm closing this bug. Sorry for misleading you.
Comment 21 Chris Wilson 2012-04-02 01:31:41 UTC
Roman, no worries, the exercise found a few bugs in SNA, and we still have a few more to go. Thanks for the bug reports!
