When compiling with --enable-debug mesa enables some application checks that may be useful for testing (see e.g. bug #30629), other internal checks that apparently slowdowns mesa, enable assertions, use -O0 for compiling and possibly other things.

It would be nice to have different configure flags to enable these options, as one may want to just enable application warnings or assertions, but disable other check that slowdown mesa.
