The man page for the radeon driver lists mostly desktop GPUs, so which mobile GPUs are supported is unclear. For my particular case, my Radeon HD 6970M is based on the desktop HD 6850, which is listed as being supported. However the GPU, which worked fine on Ubuntu 15.04 with fglrx drivers, has no supported driver found on Ubuntu 16.04 which has dropped fglrx in favor of the radeon and amdgpu drivers. Is the HD 6970M supported? Is there a way I could force the driver to work with the 6970M for purpose of testing? I request that supported mobile GPUs be added to the Radeon driver man page. Thanks!
All radeon hardware is supported by the open source driver which is shipped in box with most distros. Not all marketing names are listed because there are too many variations.
If that is true, why is neither the amdgpu nor radeon drivers that ship with Ubuntu 16.04 (the only open source drivers it has for AMD GPUs) being detected as supported? If I run `lshw -c video` the HD 6970M is listed as 'unclaimed', implying no compatible driver was detected. Either there is a bug with the driver compatibility detection or the card is not supported. Also, if radeon driver supports every card, why bother having a supported GPU list in the man page? Why not just say, 'all radeon hardware is supported'?

Please make sure any remnants of fglrx are uninstalled and radeon is not blacklisted. > Also, if radeon driver supports every card, why bother having a supported > GPU list in the man page? Why not just say, 'all radeon hardware is > supported'? All of the chip families are listed (R100, RV350, BARTS, TURKS, etc.). Just just listed a selection of the marketing names for reference because there are so many.
