Wasabi is an umbrella project with the purpose of providing unified apis and specs for desktop search- and metadata services. We are in need of a VCS (svn, cvs, git, whatever), a bugzilla product, and a mailing list. This bug is an "upgrade" from a mailing list request - see bug #10051. Regards, Mikkel

how does this go with tracker (#9907)?
Wasabi does not have anything to do with Tracker as such. Wasabi is a project to create unified specifications for desktop search and related matters. Tracker is an implementation of a desktop search engine (that is likely to adopt the Wasabi specs later on). Apart from Tracker; Beagle, Strigi, Pinot, and Recoll developers have shown interest too. As well have the Mandriva guys from the Nepomuk semantic desktop project. We need a VCS+bugzilla to host the shared libs to various components of the specs. The mailing list will provide "neutral ground" for the various competing platforms. I hope if clears matters up. Cheers, Mikkel
I was contacted by wasabisystems.com with a polite request that we should rename the project. I expect that the other project members will respect that (as I do). Until we have a new name this bug/request should be put on hold. Cheers - and sorry for the inconvenience.
We changed the name of the project to "xesam". I have updated the bug title to reflet this. Please proceed on project creation substituting Wasabi for xesam.
The lack of a project home is starting to become a serious issue. If project creation is more than a few weeks from now we will have to find another host. Sorry, if I sound harsh, I honestly don't mean to - we are just approaching a few deadlines and we badly need a real home :-) Cheers
This is issue is starting to become, or already is, a blocker for projects including Beagle, Tracker, Strigi, Pinot, Recoll, and Nepomuk, a few Google SoCs depend on this as well. If anyone can find time to handle this it will hugely appreciated. Here is list of our needs (in no particular order) to make matters a clear as possible: 1) A mailing list to avoid flooding xdg 2) Some sort of VCS 3) A bugzilla product 4) Our own domain, fx xesam.freedesktop.org would match our dbus specs nicely :-). This domain is also going to be used for xml namespacing. 5) A wiki All in all a setup much like the Telepathy project has I guess... PS: My offer from http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xdg/2007-May/008281.html still stands of course :-D
I guess we're just waiting for an admin with some free time here :-)
I see several projects conceived considerably later than this project creation request have mailing lists set up within a very short time. Who do I have to know to fast track this process?
Waiting confirmation from sitewranglers, lists will be setup as soon as response from them is received.
Mailinglist created (xesam@freedesktop.org), you should receive info to: mikkel.kamstrup@gmail.com about setup. Are you happy with a git repo for your VCS? In regards to bugzilla I need: o List of components for the xesam product & description for each o Default email address for bugs to go to (this can be the new list)

Thanks a bunch. A git repo will do fine. Here's a list of Bugzilla components: * Search Specification - Issues with the search API, query language, or user search language * Ontology - Issues in the Xesam core- or extended ontologies * Metadata Storage Specification - Issues with the Xesam metadata storage specification * Shared Tools - Issues with generic tools distributed by the Xesam project, such as test suites, introspection tools, and platform independent code * Glib - Issues with the glib based libraries distributed by the Xesam project * Qt - Issues with the Qt based libraries distributed by the Xesam project About the default mail address; given we can change it in the future just use the list, if not I think you have to use mine to prevent possible future bug-spamming to the list.
Ok, git repo created: git clone git://anongit.freedesktop.org/xesam git+ssh ... bugzilla product/components added. I had to use your mail address as bz requires a valid user not just any old email for the default assignee. Enjoy!
Thanks. Hack time!
