I made this bug (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=782929) on gnome-shell, but was told it's a radeon bug so I thought I'd let you know. Original text: Sometimes when I open my laptop I am greeted with the screen as shown in the attachment. This does not happen every time. Sometimes it stays on that screen and I can't do anything. Other times I can see a blacks screen with text, similar to the picture, flash and it shows the login screen. When I click on my user, enter my password and press enter I am greeted with the login screen again. Because it only flashes by, I am unsure if it's the same output. Also sometimes when I login the mouse is very slow/laggy. I'm not sure if it's related, but I thought I'd mention it anyway. No black screen with text flashes before the login screen in this case though. I typed out some parts of the error message in case it was useful: https://izumi.tv/f/gshell.txt If any other information is require, let me know what and how I can find it. This is the error message on the screen: https://izumi.tv/i/mutter.jpg Additional info I think may be useful: GPU: VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Chelsea XT GL [FirePro M4000] OS: Korora 25 (basically Fedora 25) Kernel version: 4.10.15-200.fc25.x86_64 Crash log: https://izumi.tv/f/crashstuff.txt The error message in the gnome-shell bug report seems relevant and can be found in crashstuff.txt
Please attach information here directly instead of referencing external sites. Did this not happen with an older kernel version?
Created attachment 131445 [details] zip with screenshot of visible error, journalctl log after error and some typed out errors from the screenshot Ah sorry, I could only figure out how to add one attachment, so thought it'd be easier to just link to stuff. It did only happen recently, so I'm fairly certain it didn't happen in previous kernels. Since I've updated my kernel a few times recently, I am not sure at which version it started to occur. It could be 4.10.15, but also 4.10.13 (fedora skipped 4.10.14 iirc). 4.10.11 and/or .12 have been released a while ago, so I don't think those are the culprits. I wish I could be more specific.
Created attachment 131637 [details] Crash log of Another instance The bug happened again. When I opened the lid, after having it closed since yesterday, I was met with the login screen. When I tried to login I saw a black background with white text flash and then returned to the login screen. I included a crashlog (which may include some shutting down lines) again. I hope it is helpful in a way.
It would be great if you could isolate which kernel version introduced the problem. Bonus points for bisecting the individual commit. :) P.S. In the future, please attach files individually instead of packing them into archives.
