screen capture of issue

for class, we use xquartz to remotely program our fortran codes saved onto our linux cluster. just last assignment, everything worked perfectly. however, this week, I cannot write any codes in my text editor.
first off, I logged in by " $ ssh -X user@server.id "
I then used the command "gedit hw7p1.f90 &" to create my document just as I have been all year. This is what I got in return:

(gedit:24305): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

please help, this is a time sensitive issue due later this week.

NOTE: between homework sets, I updated to the latest MacOS Mojave. I suspect this is central to the issue.

That indicates that you haven't configured ssh for X11 forwarding. It isn't an X11 bug and is a local configuration issue.
