Description Roie Kerstein 2004-09-15 03:23:14 UTC
I have Intel's 845G on 2.4.25 kernel.
I hane agpgart and intel_agp compiled as modules.
On X.org 6.7.0, DRI worked with the i830 drm module.
When I upgraded to X.org 6.8, DRI insisted to load i915 drm module.
I installed the i915 module from 20040827 (Gentoo ebuild).
Since then, X server fails to load drm, although the module is loaded,
providing the message:
(EE) I810(0): [drm] failure adding irq handler

Comment 2 Dave Airlie 2004-09-15 04:16:14 UTC
have you got a dmesg maybe install the i915 driver with drm_opts=debug

not sure what gentoo ebuild 20040827 is.. is it an Xorg tree or a DRM tree?

Comment 3 Roie Kerstein 2004-09-15 04:24:48 UTC
DRM tree.
There is another ebuild for X.org 6.8.0.
Comment 4 Roie Kerstein 2004-09-15 04:29:52 UTC
How do I install with drm_opts=debug exactly?
This is my dmesg:

Comment 7 Jordi Molina 2004-10-15 14:15:23 UTC
I also have the same error message. Same X.org and drm module (i915) but my
kernel is a 2.6.8-gentoo-r5.

My graphics card is a i855GM and is running on a centrino (Acert TM 370).
Please let me know should you need any log/test
Comment 8 Feanor 2004-10-22 16:46:06 UTC
I've got exactly the same problem on a Gentoo 2.6.8-r10, with an i855GM chipset
on a Pentium 4-M 2.4 Ghz, running X.org 6.8.0-r1

That's my uname -a:

Please ask me if there's something i can test to help debug this.

PS: everything was fine with XFree86 4.3.0

I moved to kernel 2.6.9-gentoo-r1.
Now it works perfectly.

I've found a patch for this bug, download it from:

http://www.skynet.ie/~airlied/patches/dri/i915_linux.diff

and apply it to the kernel:

[/usr/src/linux] # cat i915_linux.diff | patch -p1

Then compile and install the new i915 module.

Xfree 6.8.0 works perfectly now (same speed got under Xfree 4.3.0 && i810... so
i've lost just three days of work with no reward :( )
