I was asked to report from upstream (Ubuntu). Tested on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/XorgOnTheEdge package Xorg.0.log.1:6.7.197+git20080103.c6522088-0ubuntu0tormod, problem still exists. In short, any switch to a text VT (Ctrl-Alt-Fn or even just stopping X server) causes flicker (vertical refresh?) which then persists after any other VT switches. Makes X pretty much unusable. Did not exist in 1:6.6.3-2ubuntu6 (Feisty Fawn version). I will post new Xorg.0.log here. Much more info at the Ubuntu bug report which is at the URL above. Let me know if you need something else. Misha
Created attachment 13504 [details] Xorg.log Here is Xorg.log with specified version of package. Flicker starts _immediately_ upon entering text VT (log consists of boot up and log in into gdm, switch to VT with Ctrl-Alt-F1, then I switched back Ctrl-Alt-F7).
Did this ever work with any of the other 6.7.19x releases? Does reverting commit 653da558148cc601bc1f80253e92ef98c75ef37a fix it? *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 12294 ***
This did not work in the 1:6.7.195-1ubuntu2 release as well, so probably correctly this is a duplicate of that bug. I hope it gets fixed. I will have to look into compiling from head and reverting that commit if you still think this is relevant, but it will take me a while. Misha
