I don't think you (should) need commit access to get a few patches in. If we're too slow reviewing, maybe you could post-follow a follow-up on the bug report or poke people on IRC? (Or create separate patches for separate issues, which makes them easier to review and commit individually).

(We usually require people to establish a track record in bugzilla over a longer period of time and preferably a variety of plugins/problems before we grant cvs commit access.)
