Kernel 2.6.33; Xorg 1.7.5; drm, mesa and xf86-video-ati from current git; non-KMS mode. All this on a ThinkPad T400, R600 video. X starts fine and gives good 3D performance, but on exit the console is blank. There's a shell there OK and the machine responds to commands typed blind. Ctrl-Alt-FN to console from a running X session also gives a black screen. I'm booting to a console using vesafb. I tried disabling that (VGA console) and rebooting, but it didn't help, still no visible console after X. Seems to be a regression, since the same setup was working fine with mesa 7.6 and earlier variants of drm and xf86-video-ati from git; however that was also before updating from kernel 2.6.32.8 so the experiment is not well controlled.
Please attach your xorg log and dmesg.

The Xorg log and dmesg are actually from kernel 2.6.32.9. I booted using that to see if the results were better, but in fact they were just the same. I can generate and attach files from 2.6.33 if that may be useful.
Just confirming that the problem (blank console after exiting X) is still present with Linux kernel 2.6.33.1 and drm, mesa and xf86-video-ati updated to git as of 2010-03-17. I will attach current Xorg log and dmesg.

This shouldn't be an issue with kms.
You're right, it's OK with kms.
