Hello, As i demand at the xorg@lists.fd.o, a new fr_new keymap is needed under ibook G4 and powerbook G4 (at least) for french users. This keymap is pretty ready for use (4th release). Hello, The Xfree86 team just replace the old symbols/macintosh/fr with this one. I wish they do this with assurance. But, this is a first step to get this « symbols map » integrated bye distros and X Servers. http://bugs.xfree86.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1574 Thanks.
I set this bug to major since people are totaly desoriented with the current symbol map. (They want to reinstall OS X ...)
So, do I understand it right - this one should completely REPLACE existing symbols/macintosh_vndr/fr, not be appended to it? Is there any use for the old one?
Hello, The current symbols map for french macintosh keyboard is obviously obsolete. The latest commit was on 1996 !!! Free french mac user have to install the this new fr symbol map in order to be able to type normal character such as |, ~, {, },[, ] and a lot of other non alphabetical characters. In fact a lot of combined character. The new symbols map proposed fixed almost every lake in the old symbol map. This symbols map have some lake concerning VT switching, nevertheless it is far more usable. This symbols map follow the OS X symbols map. So french user switching from OS X to Xorg (GNU/Linux or *BSD) keep happy with the keyboard. This is not the case ! I repeat **every** free mac french user currently switch to this keymap. See mailing lists, forums, howto or blog. :) Thanks for your attention.
OK, that makes sense to me. I'll replace the layout ASAP.
