Description druidic 2010-07-07 13:48:24 UTC
When switching to console with compositing enabled (with compiz), the display comes up garbled (still displaying a part of the gnome desktop in my case). Switching back to X still works, but the console is unusable. The same garbled display comes up when X is killed upon system shutdown.

This only seems to happen when compositing is used, KMS is disabled and after the user has logged out of the system at least once.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Login with gdm
2. Switch to console (Ctrl-Alt-F1)
   Everything fine at this point
3. Log out
4. Login with gdm
5. Switch to console
6. The display is garbled

This does not seem to happen when KMS is enabled.

VERSIONS:
kernel 2.6.34.1
xf86-video-ati 6.13.0/6.13.1/latest git
compiz 0.8.6
xorg-server 1.8.1.902
gdm 2.30.4

I'm afraid this will be low priority, as more reliable VT switching is an explicit strength of KMS.

Mass closure: This bug has been untouched for more than six years, and is not
obviously still valid. Please reopen this bug or file a new report if you continue to experience issues with current releases.
