Created attachment 38762 [details] X.org log Kernel: 2.6.32-5-amd64 Xorg: 1:6.13.1-2 Video card: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV630 [Radeon HD 2600 Series] Firmware files are up to date (debian/sid) Since I upgraded to a new kernel (and fresh X server) I have slight problems with screen redrawing then switching desktops. Also I encounter a very high cpu load when (for example) xscreensaver is running. glxgear runs at about 840 FPS I'll check if I can get useful sysprof output.

From the log file: (II) RADEON(0): GPU accel disabled or not working, using shadowfb for KMS (WW) RADEON(0): Direct rendering disabled Check dmesg.
Created attachment 39382 [details] dmesg output / kernel is now 2.6.31-1-amd64 I went back to using 2.6.31-1 since the 2.6.32-5 was quite unstable. X has still problems with redrawing the screen. Here's the dmesg output you wanted to see.
[ 661.954481] [drm] Initialized drm 1.1.0 20060810 [ 661.958428] radeon: Unknown parameter `modeset' The radeon kernel module fails to load because it's too old to know about this parameter. Try without that parameter. However, that's not the same problem anymore. dmesg from the newer kernel would still be interesting.
Created attachment 42274 [details] kern.log from up-to-date 2.6.32-5 (debian/sid) I tried once more, today. Rebooted into 2.6.32-5, logged in, typed startx -> System froze, had to do power off/on.
Resolving as invalid, will open another one (maybe) about the crashes. About the area redrawing problem I'll retry when I'll get the new kernel up and running.
