Description Ernst Sjöstrand 2011-01-25 12:44:27 UTC
Ubuntu Maverick with xorg-edgers ppa giving the following versions:

64-bit amd64, radeon 4770
Kernel: 2.6.37-12-generic
xorg: 2:1.9.2.901+git20101129+server-1.9-branch.65f2ab20-0ubuntu0sarvatt2~maverick
mesa: 7.11.0+git20110119.a5da4acb-0ubuntu0sarvatt~maverick
radeon: 1:6.13.99+git20110124.fadee040-0ubuntu0sarvatt~maverick

You have to turn off a compositing windowmanager and run plain metacity for example, and have color tiling enabled.
Then you can trigger this by running the Lines test in GtkPerf for example, also saving a file in OpenOffice seems to trigger it.
Setting ColorTiling to false stops this from happening.

Also running with:
echo profile > /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_method
echo low > /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_profile

This has been fixed along the way.
