Description Nikolaus 2011-03-17 04:34:32 UTC
Hi,

I'm running Xorg server and ati drivers (1:6.14.99+git20110315.8567b8cd-0ubuntu0sarvatt) from xorg-edgers ppa for natty.
Hardware:
 Samsung P35 Notebook
 Radeon Mobility 9700 (M11)

The system freezes (no reaction to MagicSysRq or hardware buttons) and must be powered down hard when fast "effect switchings" were triggered, like showing previews of all workspaces or entering+leaving the half-transparent unity launcher.

How to debug further?

Does

    Option "EnablePageFlip" "off"

work around the problem?

Hi Michel,

after some days of testing this seems to do the trick. Is there a mechanism to set such options by default for certain cards/systems? How can this setting be contributed to ubuntu?

Thank you.
Nikolaus

I want to confirm that the patch was included in natty[1] and seems also to do the trick for me.
