To copy and paste some text, I move the mouse pointer over the text
while pressing one mouse button. To paste, I move the mouse pointer over
the window I want to paste into and press another mouse button to have the
text inserted where the text cursor (or its equivalent, like a selected cell in a spreadsheet) is. That´s quick and simple and very convenient.

This basically works just fine with LO, too. The problem is that the default pasting type chosen by LO is always "paste everything", and this default cannot be changed.

Users have to take a lengthy detour through the Edit menu and Paste special and the dialog box that then pops up to let them select the pasting type they want, like "unformatted text".

What pasting types are available depends on what´s in the clipboard, which has the side effect that users do not find their preferred pasting type always at the same position in the list of pasting styles in the dialog box, and that makes selecting the preferred pasting type even more difficult.

This can be only to some extend worked around by adding buttons to toolbars for frequently used pasting types. I´m not sure if it´s even possible to assign all of the available pasting type to toolbar buttons.

What I suggest is to let users define what they want to be the default pasting style. It could be an option in the dialog box that pops up when "paste special" is used.

This is kind of a FAQ and we decided recently to keep the current status, see bug 62672. There are many other tickets around this topic...
