Description Sebastian Kemper 2011-09-13 12:46:29 UTC
Hello everybody!

Current setup:
xorg-server-1.10.4
xf86-video-ati-6.14.2
Sapphire HD 6850 BARTS

When DPMS kicks in (no matter what mode, e.g. standby, suspend or off) my monitor's back-light switches off and then on again. The cycle repeats endlessly.

Example:

sleep 1; xset dpms force off

Then my monitor goes black and a message appears stating "no input signal". Then the back-light switches off. But after a second the monitor restarts as if the status had changed (e.g. signal had returned) and the back-light switches on again. Next comes the message again "no input signal". Repeat repeat repeat.

I also check if changing the power_method (dynpm vs. profile) makes a difference, but it doesn't.

I have a HD 3200 on-board. When that card is enabled instead, DPMS works fine.

Thanks for taking a look!

Kind regards
Sebastian

It looks like you have your card attached to a TV. Some TVs periodically probe the their inputs which causes hotplug connect/disconnects. This should be fixed in kernel 3.1 and the latest 3.0.x stable images. Might be a dupe of bug 38030.

Hi Alex,

I'm using latest stable, 3.0.4. It is a TV, kind of, as it does have a DVB-T card integrated. But I'm connected to the DVI port of the monitor. And with my on-board HD 3200 the issue doesn't appear.

Thanks for the swift reply!

Kind regards
Sebastian

Can you try 3.1? I'm not sure the patches have made it into 3.0.4 (i.e., they may end up in 3.0.5).
