Tar archive (Ubuntu)

Enclosing an application with a simple python script exposing a tray icon allowing user to start, stop and set the url for the http server. Installation is covered in README. Here is a autotools tar archive aimed for ubuntu + possibly other platforms  and rpm files for Fedora 12.

Interesting. Now of course the question is: how do we get this into the hands of more users? Would you like to get this included in the main syncevolution source code repository and source .tar.gz?

If so, do you think you can provide a patch against the current master which adds the necessary files and configure changes?

I'm not sure how to deal with translations in such a case, suggestions welcome. There's only one "po" directory in SyncEvolution, which already contains translations for both sync-ui and a few core messages.

As far as Meego goes the tray icon approach is a bad choice as we don't have a tray by default. For the platforms you mentioned this might be fine: I'd probably do this as a configuration applet but maybe I haven't understood the use cases fully.

I'm mentioning this only because the bug is currently filed on "OS middleware" which means Meego components... There's a syncevolution product as well, meaning "upstream syncevolution" (yeah, it's a bit complex).

Hm... I'm really new to this, and the overall project management is way beyond what I can grasp. But both from my own point of view, and given the remark that the tray isn't really ubiquitous  here, I guess the goal would be that this would be a separate package in the repositories, which could be installed on demand.

Given this overall picture, would it be an idea to let this be a separate download available from the same project? It's sort of add-on, usable for some but not for all. Or maybe a complete separate tree within the overall source tree which is enabled or not depending on who's compiling the stuff i.  e., the packager?

BTW: Are there other approaches  to accomplish this which should work both on meeGo and opendesktop desktops?

As what Jussi (jku) said, it's probably not the way MeeGo does this. If it 
could be an enhancement to upstream synevolution, you can move this one to 
"MeeGo Projects" ->"SyncEvolution". Thanks

Patch series integrating the server ui into the main source tree. Comments in each patch. The build-docs patch is extremely shaky, hacks with the only merit that they work for me.

I didn't find the "build.patch" that was mentioned in the "series" file; it didn't seem to be necessary. I also did not understand what "build-docs.patch" was meant to do, so I dropped it.

I've merged the rest of your patches into a new "http-server-ui" branch based on the latest master. I made some further changes and fixed some issues that I ran into.

Can you check the branch and give me a heads up for merging it into master, in preparation for SyncEvolution 1.1? Also, can you write a Wiki page for it?

Fine, these are just a baseline + build problems. But a note on Makefile.am that it's generated makes life easier for newbies like me ;)

Yes, but not ATM (I'm on holiday, just checking my email for some hours). Back in early August...

Next release, next try ;-) Do you still want this included in an official release, which would be 1.2 now?
