Description Igor Ribeiro Sucupira 2014-04-23 00:31:00 UTC
Problem description:
Ubuntu's guest account has the home directory mounted on a tmpfs filesystem (which is actually mounted on a directory inside /tmp), so all of that user's data is lost after log out.

This is an issue with Ubuntu (not LibreOffice), but I've seen a friend lose a long LibreOffice document that he had edited while logged in to a guest account on my computer.

So, I thought it would be helpful if LibreOffice could show a warning message whenever a user tries to save a file to a tmpfs (or, alternatively, if the path is anywhere under /tmp - this should be easier to implement).

Steps to reproduce:
1. Log in to Ubuntu using the guest account.
2. Create a document using LibreOffice.
3. Add content to the document and save it to the suggested location.

Current behavior:
No warning is shown about the document being saved to a directory whose content will be lost after log out (a tmpfs, more specifically).

Expected behavior:
A warning message telling the user that the document is being saved to a location where it may be lost after log out.

Thank you!
Operating System: Ubuntu
Version: 4.2.2.1 release

Oh: and I know that not all tmpfs filesystems will be lost after log out. But the home directory of Ubuntu's guest user will.
Besides, all tmpfs filesystems are volatile. The data can be lost at any moment (and will be lost with reboot).

** Please read this message in its entirety before responding **

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present on a currently supported version of LibreOffice (4.4.3 or later)
   https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the version of LibreOffice and your operating system, and any changes you see in the bug behavior

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a short comment that includes your version of LibreOffice and Operating System

Please DO NOT

   Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so: 1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3)

http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results;
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to "inherited from OOo";
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add "regression" to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=libreoffice-qa

Thank you for your help!

Setting to enhancement. Not sure, if a good idea, so setting to UNCONFIRMED.

Not a good idea for me. When you are working on a foreign computer you should save your work on your own device, usb key or usb HD.

As LO and many other software uses by default the standard filepicker from the OS, I suggest you to file a bug against your Linux distribution, if it does not show a warning when starting a guest session that all saved files will be removed when the session will be closed.

Closing as WontFix.
