When trying to start DIA, XQuartz is launched (as normal), but DIA crashes and a window  with the text "bash-3.2$" opens in Quartz.

I installed both programs yesterday, and they were working. As far as I know I had not made any changes since then, still I get this error repeatedly.

Have tried reinstalling and rebooting.

I have OS X El-capitan v10.11.2.

Help will be much appreciated!

Not sure what DIA is, but if it's the one crashing, you should report the bug with them.  It sounds like XQuartz launched fine and gave you an initial xterm.
