I'm not sure if this is related to https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33968 because I'm using the amdgpu driver. The monitor (samsung U28E590D) is connected by displayport to a radeon r9 fury. Additional Information: Linux desktop 4.3.3-2-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Dec 23 20:09:18 CET 2015 x86_64 GNU/Linux 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. I have done more tests this morning and it seems like I can get out of "xset dpms force {standby, suspend, off}". Originally when I first had the problem, I disabled screen blanking with "xset s off". My screen went black and I was blocked again so I supposed this time it was dpms. This morning I confirmed the screen doesn't come back after I have manually turned off and on the monitor.
Unless it works with the modesetting driver, it's probably a kernel driver issue.
I thought it might be, because I also noticed that if I boot with the monitor turned off, and then turn it on, the screen will never turn on.
As of 4.4.1 I can turn on and off the monitor properly. I'll test blanking and dpms now.
It seems like I can get out of dpms/blanking now. I'll now try to test them separately.
I just had a situation where again I couldn't wake the screen. I'll continue my investigation.
Hi, I'm happy to say that I haven't had any issues with dpms/screen blanking as of the last kernels. Thank you.
