Interesting, it's not only cairo backend specific but it's only reproducible by using poppler_page_render() while it works by using poppler_page_render_to_pixbuf() which is the reason why it works with evince 0.8.
It looks like this has to do with slice rendering of rotated documents.
Fixed in cvs.
