When I open the webpage http://www.bbspot.com/News/2007/09/microsoft-reveals-windows-vista-sp1-will-install-xp.html with mozilla-firefox 2.0.0.7 on a ATI Radeon X550 (RV370) 5B63 (PCIE) X locks, the keyboard becomes unresponsive, the mouse keeps moving but the buttons don't work anymore and I'm forced to restart the machine by logging with ssh from another pc. X uses 100% CPU and can't be killed. This happens when using EXA with the latest driver xf86-video-ati 6.7.194. I couldn't reproduce the problem with XAA or with the vesa driver. I didn't try previous releases. TX locks when firefox starts displaying the page; I should also mention that the first time I opened the link in a new tab without switching the focus from the old one, and when I finally switched the webpage background (it should be white) contained multiple repetitions of window decorations, scrollbars and chunks of other applications with the text correctly rendered: when I refreshed I had my first lockup. Other software informations: xorg-server 1.4, mesa 7.0.1, drm included in kernel 2.6.22.

What window manager are you using? Does it also happen with Option "AccelDFS" "off" or without Option "EnablePageFlip"? It would be great if you could try older releases as well, in particular xserver 1.3 or older and xf86-video-ati 6.6.3.
xf86-video-ati 6.7.194: PageFlip off, AccelDFS on: lock PageFlip on, AccelDFS off: no lock, corrupted background xf86-video-ati 6.6.191: PageFlip on, AccelDFS on: lock xf86-video-ati 6.6.3: PageFlip on, AccelDFS on: no lock, no corruptions Can't revert to xorg-server 1.3 today.
(In reply to comment #3) > What window manager are you using? Oh, I overlooked this. The first time I was using compiz 0.5.2; initially I thought that the lock was a compiz bug, but since compiz had been working stable for 2 weeks I tried again with metacity 2.18.5. All the following tests were made with metacity 2.18.5.
