System: Toshiba P35-S629 Processor: P4 3.33GHz Ram: 1 Gig GPU: ATI Mobility Radeon 9600/9700 Series OS: openSuSE 10.3/xorg 7.3/all updates kernel: 2.6.22.12-0.1-default Using the Radeon driver with 3D enabled locks the graphics system and hardlocks the system. This prevent the system from being able to boot to runlevel 5. The only way to start the graphics system with 3D enabled is to boot to runlevel 3 and then go directly into kde with startx. Leaving the graphics system, you cannot go back in without a hardlock and hard reset. This has been exhaustively investigated with Novell and the problem was identified with the r300 driver. There is an incredibly detailed step by step investigation, with logs and screen shots already prepared for you at: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=338930 and related Bug https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=338947 similar issues specific to xorg 7.3 and fglrx are also well documented at: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=340459 Please review the wealth of information already provided. Note, I am a registered professional engineer and I am willing to conduct any tests and provide any and all information you may need to help identify the problem and help fix it. I can generally respond within an hour, often times I can work in real time with you.
I suppose it's AGP related problem. Could you try different AGP modes in xorg.conf? Also check if AGP Fast Writes is disabled.
