I had compiled and installed ATI 6.8.0 driver (mostly I wanted to get XVideo going). Driver git revision: $ cd projects/repositories/xf86-video-ati-build $ git rev-parse HEAD 153ad6fcf704cbf9f811d9986cd4baf04e82c9d2 Xorg.0.log will be attached later. In short this is Laptop 2G RAM/Core2/ATI X1600. Laptop model is HP nx9420. Kernel is vanilla 2.6.25-rc3, the same happens on 2.6.24.2 I think. Playing movie via 'gmplayer -vo xv <avi-file>' just fine it seems. But if I switch full screen (1680x1050) and back to window mode several times, laptop freezes. Video stops and sound is constantly repeating the same audio fragment ("stutters" all the time) and keeps going. Keyboard is not responding at all, no mouse & etc. Laptop hangs 100% if tried. The only way to recover is to power cycle :( Then long fsck and log files turn up without any trace of oops or any other useful information, sorry :( Can't tell if that was a kernel crash or anything else ...

It is even easier than that (No need to start video player at all). It is enough to close the laptop lid. Then open again - screen is dark, keyboard is not responding at all & etc. Laptop dead. Linux kernel is 2.6.25-rc3 (vanilla), revision: $ git describe HEAD v2.6.25-rc3-81-g7704a8b lsmod output, dmesg will be attached next.

Created attachment 14710 [details] loaded modules, kernel is not tainted.
Created attachment 14711 [details] lspci -vxx output
Any ideas how to debug this ? :)

can you try with ati git master?
Works for me, with latest stable and from git, no more problems.
