Created attachment 15715 [details] X log for ati driver from git I have a 690G chipset with integrated Radeon X1250. X server version 1.4. I get a blank screen (VGA monitor) with the ati (radeon) driver. RadeonHD and fglrx drivers both work. I have tried both driver version 6.8.0 and git (master) at 2008-04-06 (today). I get the same result with both. Despite the fact that the X log contains lines saying "Enable CRTC 0 success" and "Unblank CRTC 0 success" the screen is totally dark.

It does seem that the monitor is getting a signal, seeing as there is a light on the front which goes orange when it's not - that light is staying green. It's just that the monitor's only displaying black.
Do you have anything attached to the s-video port? If so can you try and disconnect it?
No S-Video, but I did have a composite video cable attaching a television. Sure enough, if I remove that, I can see my desktop on the VGA monitor. So it's incorrectly detecting S-Video when what's actually connected is composite. Also, it should default to enabling the monitor, not S-Video, or at least have an option, shouldn't it? (as far as I understand it, the board can't actually drive both outputs at the same time). Finally, using mplayer to play a video using Xv causes a hard lockup of the system (window appears, mostly blank, corruption occurs in xterm from which video was played, and then the screen goes blank. After that I can't even ssh in to the box). I've tried setting "DMAForXv" to "false" in xorg.conf, but it didn't help.

There's apparently a bad interaction happening since both outputs share the same dac. We should probably just ignore the tv output now since at the moment it's not working properly anyway. I'll take a look at those code paths. > Finally, using mplayer to play a video using Xv causes a hard lockup of the > system (window appears, mostly blank, corruption occurs in xterm from which > video was played, and then the screen goes blank. For now you'll have to make sure you have the latest drm installed and working and possibly enable exa to have textured video working.
Ok, thanks for the info. I will try with EXA and the latest DRM as soon as I get the chance (probably the weekend). By the way, I am impressed with how quickly you responded. It's great to get this level of support.
I can confirm that using EXA and latest pre-patch kernel (2.6.25-rc9) gives me working XVideo acceleration. Will watch development (I'm keenly waiting for working TV-out, then I can ditch the fglrx driver).
I just tested with 6.9.0.91. The problem I initially reported (VGA monitor blank when X starts while TV also connected) no longer occurs. Thanks.
