Created attachment 16457 [details] log file from startup of the X server I have RedHat Fedora 8, with all of the current updates. It works fine with the video card built into the computer, but when I install the Radeon 7000 into a PCI slot, the X server fails to start. If I install Redhat Fedora 4, the (Radeon 7000) video card works fine. During startup, I get a message in big block text saying: X11 failed to start. My monitor is a Viewsonic VA 2012 wb. Please let me know if you need more information, I haven't submitted a bug before. The following is the log from /var/log, the xorg config file, and the version information. I have an extra video card of this configuration. Do you need me to send you one?
Your X crashed because it couldn't find font properly. Specify the font path explicitly in the "Files" section or use "-fp" option when you start X server, then it will work. Find the font path and add it to the "Files" section of xorg.conf. The path of font could be /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/ or /usr/share/X11/fonts/. Example: Section "Files" RgbPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb" FontPath "unix/:7100" FontPath "/usr/share/X11/fonts/misc/" FontPath "/usr/share/X11/fonts/TTF/" FontPath "/usr/share/X11/fonts/OTF/" FontPath "/usr/share/X11/fonts/Type1/" FontPath "/usr/share/X11/fonts/100dpi/" FontPath "/usr/share/X11/fonts/75dpi/" EndSection or X -fp /usr/share/X11/fonts/misc -Jason On Fri, 2008-05-09 at 09:12 -0700, bugzilla-daemon@freedesktop.org wrote: > http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15892 > > Summary: X fails to start with Radeon 7000 64MB DDR V/D/VO PCI > Product: xorg > Version: unspecified > Platform: x86 (IA32) > OS/Version: Linux (All) > Status: NEW > Severity: major > Priority: medium > Component: Driver/Radeon > AssignedTo: xorg-driver-ati@lists.x.org > ReportedBy: jamesbecker@peakpeak.com > QAContact: jamesbecker@peakpeak.com > > > Created an attachment (id=16457) > --> (http://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=16457) > log file from startup of the X server > > I have RedHat Fedora 8, with all of the current updates.
