Using the "radeon" driver.
You need a newer version of Mesa and the DRM kernel modules to get direct rendering working on that video card. I know that these are available with Fedora 9, but I'm not sure about Fedora 8. I'm not a developer, so I won't/can't change the status, but I would suggest this get resolved as not a bug.
