the file renders incorrectly in evince and xpdf, but correctly in acroread. the problem seems to be with fonts...

the bug was initially reported in launchpad:

The PDF renders correctly with poppler 0.9.3 and development version of freetype. You'll need to wait until freetype releases a new version.
