xorg.log

When X starts and using only HDMI with rgb cable unplugged, parts of the screen are off the monitor, on all four sides. If both cables are plugged in the problem is worse for HDMI but rgb looks OK.

Only two resolutions currently appear using only HDMI.

bash-3.1$ xrandr -q
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 720, maximum 1920 x 1400
VGA_1 disconnected
DVI-D_1 connected 1280x720+0+0 700mm x 390mm
   1280x720 60.0*+
   640x480 60.0

With both hooked up I think I got three with HDMI and four with rgb.

Using slackware 12.1
X -version says 1.42

Please, check configuration of your TV first. It probably uses some kind of "zoom" mode :) Let us know about results.
Comment 3 No 2008-11-01 15:56:33 UTC
It was in Wide mode. When I changed it to zoom and restart X there was no difference. I then changed to normal mode and restart X. The picture was squeezed but the overall problem was the same --> image is larger than monitor in all modes.

Note that in wide mode, fglrx works well. Haven't tried fglrx with zoom or normal.

This sounds very much like a duplicate of bug #14500.
We have not found a resolution to that one as we have been unable to reproduce it.

I can see from your xorg.conf that you are using my HDMI patch, does it make any difference if you disable HDMI support?

Try setting the "HDMI" option to "none" instead of "all".

I deleted src and got new from git. I did not add any patches but I think the main src now has your patch built in. This comment only to clarify that it is the main git and not the patch 004 you sent me earlier.

I made the change (HDMI "none"). Image still has problem but the sound over HDMI did stop.

Changed HDMI back to all but commented out option audio on. Sound still works.

I think I used to get three resolutions over HDMI but am now only getting two.
Made a change to xorg.conf by adding line:
     Option "monitor-VIZIO" "vizio"
Maybe that caused something but still not part of main problem.
I tried with and without virtual 1920 1400, under the screen subsection.
Didn't notice any real difference.

Have other people with 780g and HDMI TV had success with current radeonHD? If so do you have their setups? Maybe I compiled kernel with something missing. Could you forward a working .config for the matching hardware? But as fglrx works with same kernel and xrandr gets many more resolutions than radeonhd, it would seem the radeonhd driver is factor. I'll go back to fglrx. Let me know if you would like me to test changes. Thank you.
