used xorg.conf

I've a great problem using a Radeon 9250 board. Using xorg open source drivers provided by Ubuntu, monitor show a "no signal" message then it goes to standby mode. System seems to be not freezed since pressing caps lock changes keyboard led and ctrl+alt+del pc reboots.

System informations:
- Ubuntu 8.10
- Ubuntu package xserver-xorg-video-ati installed
- X.Org 7.4 version
- Asus K8V-X SE motherboard BIOS 1501
- CPU AMD Sempron 300+
- 512MB ram

I'll attach my xorg.conf, Xorg.0.log and lspci result. Let me know if you need some other informations.

Thanks. Best Regards,
Simone Navari.

Your log looks fine although it looks like ubuntu has removed some of the modesetting messages. Did this used to work? If so what version of ubuntu/driver?

Thank you for your rapid response. As I said I used Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10 as it is without any changes in settings except for xorg.conf where I inserted settings to use xorg ati open source driver: it is self installed by ubuntu and its version is 6.9.0 (ubuntu package xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.9.0+git20081003.f9826a56-0ubuntu2, and as ubuntu says it is generated with xorg driver module xf86-video-ati).
I hope those details can help you to better understand the problem. Can I do any other test or settings change for more detail ?

Best Regards,
Simone Navari.

Did your setup used to work under an older version of ubuntu or some other distro or is this the first time you've tried it? If it used to work, what distro version was it?

I tried before with Ubuntu 8.04 with package driver xserver-xorg-video-ati (1:6.8.0-1) with same result. I want now to try with a different Live distro not based on ubuntu/debian.
Thanks.

I've found a workaround ! Setting "NoDRI" option in xorg.conf it works but obviously performance are poor and destkop effects can't be enabled since no acceleration is available. Have you any ideas ?

Do either of the following options (in the device section of your config) help?
Option "AGPMode" "4"
or
Option "BusType" "PCI"
