Description Alexander van Loon 2008-11-10 03:09:35 UTC
I'm using a recently new installation Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit with swfdec 0.8.0. When I open the URL specified with Firefox, the video appears to be loaded, but after a few seconds the Firefox window goes gray, and I have to "Force Quit" because it crashed. I know swfdec 0.8.2. is released, but there are no packages yet for Ubuntu 8.10. To be clear, other YouTube videos do work.

This should be already fixed in 0.8.2 and it should happens only with h264/aac videos. I know that most distro are not up to date with packages but maybe filing a "new upstream release" bug in their bts may improve the situation. In your specific case you can even try to rebuild the debian package.

For those who are interesed, I posted a bugreport – https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/swfdec0.8/+bug/296343 – on Ubuntu's bug tracker.

The new version 0.8.2 just gave me black screen on the video previously mentionned. So, FF did not freeze as previously, but no real gain yet.

h264 video playback is available in git master and 0.9.2. In 0.8 tree only the freeze has been fixed since swfdec policy is to apply only fixes in the stable tree. Please add yourself to cc in bugzilla #18187 if you want to be updated on h264/aac support. Thanks.
