test case

Attached PDF contains four homework problems, but in Evince it appears as only the header and the numbers 1-4. The actual problem text is missing. Seems to be a Poppler bug because other tools like pdftotext also ignore the text in question.

pdfinfo says the PDF was produced by "Mac OS X 10.5.5 Quartz PDFContext"

After testing with poppler_qt4viewer and Git, it still only renders the title and numbers.

I do see this though:
Error: Missing language pack for 'Adobe-Korea1' mapping
Error: Unknown font tag 'F3.1'
Error (400): No font in show
Error: Unknown font tag 'F3.1'
Error (414): No font in show
Error: Unknown font tag 'F3.1'

and so on.

Brad, you don't seem to have poppler-data installed
Comment 3 Brad Hards 2008-11-12 02:07:11 UTC
Yep, that was it (installed, but not in the right prefix).

Now works for me.

Keenan: maybe you need to upgrade, or to install poppler-data?

Brad

I installed poppler-data and now it works, but I think there's still a bug here because clearly not everyone has that package installed. It shouldn't just silently display a page with missing text. It should either ask for the user to install the extra files it needs, or do a better best-effort rendering.
Comment 5 Brad Hards 2008-11-14 00:05:23 UTC
I don't see it quite the same way. I think it is a packaging bug - in Fedora (for example), poppler-data is provided by the same package. If you don't have it, consider filing a bug report with your distro.

Note that poppler does report missing fonts (as seen in my previous posting).
