Description Torsten Werner 2008-12-31 10:45:25 UTC
Hi,

would it be possible to update the license to version 3.0 because version 2.5 has some issues? Some projects (like Debian) do not accept CC 2.5 as a free license and hence cannot use the tango icons.

Cheers,
Torsten

The effort to relicense the icon theme under CC-BY-SA 3.0 ended up in relicensing all the work by Novell under Public Domain [1]. Some other authors also agreed to relicense their contributions that way. Unfortunately this is not everybody. While I want to focus on the tango-icon-library [2], Andreas Nilsson planned to release a tarball of all the relicensed content, but it hasn't happened yet.

Sorry for reopening this bug but cc by sa 2.5 allows redistribution under the terms of a later version in section 4 part 2:

       2. You may distribute, publicly display, publicly perform, or
publicly digitally perform a Derivative Work only under the
terms of this License, a later version of this License with
the same License Elements as this License, or a Creative Commons
iCommons license that contains the same License Elements as this
       License (e.g. Attribution-ShareAlike 2.5 Japan).

That is why I renew my request to relicense tango.

The tango-icon-theme has been released under public domain. You can now relicense it whatever you want. Just grab the latest release.
