Description Stanislav Brabec 2009-02-18 06:01:37 UTC
GPE and XFCE are desktop environments. To simplify and unify its integration, it's needed to add them to registered Categories:

1) Add GPE, LXDE, XFCE and ROX as "Additional Category" (or "Technology Category", see bug 20189)

2) Add GPE as keyword allowed in OnlyShowIn (and NotShowIn)

Alternative idea:

- Define a "List of Registered Desktops and Toolkits"

- Change texts to:

Categories can contain any key from the List of Registered Desktops and Toolkits

OnlyShowIn and NotShowIn can contain any key from the List of Registered Desktops and Toolkits.

Pro: It would be possible to register new desktop without update of the specification in two places.

Sorry for the noise, reassigning to new (since 2 years) maintainers (Ryan & David).

Finally catching up with all these freedesktop bug reports...

XFCE has been in the list for a long time, and GPE seems inactive since 2013 (*), is this request still valid ?

Also the desktop entry spec doesn't list desktop environments anymore, only the menu spec (and desktop-file-utils, for validation).

Seems like it's all fine now.
