Created attachment 27617 [details] [review] Xorg log 6.9.0 Distribution: Slackware 13 xorg server: 1.6.1 xf86-video-ati 6.12.2 I have a Radeon 9200 PRO on the PCI Bus (VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 PRO] (rev 01)). The screen becomes black and nothing appears when I start the X server. It's not possible to go to another VT. But X seems to be alive. I can connect to the computer using SSH and I can launch a graphical application without problems (of course I cannot use it, because I do not see it). I've tried to disable DRI, Acceleration and it's not better. I've reverted to the 6.9.0 version of the driver and it works. I think that there is a regression between the 6.9.0 and 6.12.2 version.
Can you attach the log from 6.12.2?

Sorry, I've attached the bad log file (the log file from the 6.9). I attach the good (the one done with the 6.12.2 version of the driver). I think, that it could be interesting to compare the two files. But I didn't notice something really different. If you want, I can test some other versions of the driver to help you to understand what happens. Pascal
Everything looks fine in the logs. Can you dump the regs under 6.9.0 and 6.12.2 using radeontool? You can find it here: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~airlied/radeontool when 6.9.0 is running, run (as root): ./radeontool regmatch '*' > reg_dump.6.9.0 then when 6.12.2 is running, run (as root): ./radeontool regmatch '*' > reg_dump.6.12.2 and attach the logs to this bug.
That's done. I've attached the register dumps with the 6.9.0, 6.12.2 and when X is not running (without any framebuffer or graphical console: only a pure text console). Pascal

Is this still an issue with KMS or a newer version of the driver?
Mass closure: This bug has been untouched for more than six years, and is not obviously still valid. Please reopen this bug or file a new report if you continue to experience issues with current releases.
