Description Arthur Spitzer 2009-07-28 02:46:46 UTC
Hi,

I'm using an
VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV535 [Radeon X1650 Series] (rev 9e)
with
 x11-base/xorg-server-1.6.2-r1
 x11-drivers/xf86-video-ati-6.12.1-r1
 media-libs/mesa-7.4.2
on a gentoo linux system. Everything was fine until I bought myself an Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 3000 tv-card (Multimedia video controller: Conexant CX23880/1/2/3 PCI Video and Audio Decoder).
When I plug the tv-card into the pci slot, xorg fails to start up.
When I remove the tv-card everything is fine again.
Additionally I tried the xf86-video-radeonhd driver. It shows one other EE message in the Xorg.0.log, but still xorg won't start. Now I'm using the vesa driver, which runs really slow, but xorg starts up.

Can you try putting the tv-card into another slot?
Comment 4 Arthur Spitzer 2009-07-28 09:56:00 UTC
Already did it before with the -video-ati driver. With same result.

Ok,

this seems to be unresolveable: Meanwhile I installed Windows on that machine. It shows the same symptoms as under Linux. The graphics card works fine, whenever the tv-card is unplugged. Whenever I plug it back in, only vesa is usable, no matter which pci slot I try. Sadly, the board has only one agp-slot, so it's not possible to set the graphics card to another slot. There won't be any software-cure, will it?

best regards,
Arthur

Doesn't seem likely.

If there was a software fix, it would need to be done in the kernel most likely. You could ask on LKML, but a solution doesn't seem likely.

That's too high in the technical hierarchy for me, I think. And the chances are just too small. But anyway, thanks for your try. I'm loving the performance of your driver on this system, and am looking forward for KMS.
