Description Elmar Stellnberger 2009-09-09 04:07:40 UTC
If I change some settings regarding the screen and resolution I always run into the same problem: xrandr refuses to continue its work saying 'configuring crtc0 failed';- that with many different xorg.confs and many different ways of using xrandr before it starts to fail.
Lately both screens turned black after accidentially disabling PANEL and DVI and then could not be restored because of xrandr saying 'configuring crtc0 failed'.- and my total KDE session was lost.
Bug 20888, Bug 20628, Bug 18592 and Bug 22452, Comment #8 are related to this issue; all of them video mode configuration errors as initiated by xrandr. note: this is very important to xinerama users and game playing (Most games require a change in resolution and a switch to clone mode.).

Can you try to figure out a xrandr sequence that triggers this issue? Be sure to use the latest released xrandr.

Also please describe your configuration, the used driver, Xserver version.

Does this issue occur with the preferred ati driver (xf86-vide-ati)? If so, please move this to the Driver/Radeon component.

Development of radeonhd has pretty much halted and development focus is on the ati driver. Please see http://www.x.org/wiki/radeonhd

If the issue does not exist in the ati driver (or if there is no response to this message), this bug will be closed as WONTFIX unless someone contributes a patch.
Comment 3 Jeremy Huddleston Sequoia 2011-11-07 15:25:20 UTC
Closing due to lack of response. Please reopen and move to the Driver/Radeon
component if this issue persists with xf86-video-ati
