Description Denny Crane 2009-09-27 20:06:20 UTC
PackageKit 0.4.9-1
gnome-packagekit 2.27.3-1
Fedora 11

Upon completion of an update requiring a restart, when I got to the first dialog (with "Close" / "Restart"), I switched to my e-mail client momentarily, but when I minimized my e-mail client, the PackageKit update window had disappeared entirely, though I had not selected any option. The restart icon, however, was in the notification-area. I believe I have observed the same issue in the past, but most likely attributed it to absent mindedness.

The dialog auto-closes after 30 seconds. Would that explain things?

Well, yes, but ...

Why? How does that add to the user experience ... other than causing potential confusion? Especially in the case of asking for user input ... what if the user clicks on that window just before it closes? Does the timer stop? Or does the window still just disappear, leaving the user wondering what happened or if they had accidentally pressed some key? I really think this is a reverse feature.

Could you email the PackageKit mailing list please, and we'll discuss there with the other developers. Thanks.

Richard.

Sorry for the impersonal message, and fingers crossed your issue no longer happens. Thanks.
