I'm using Inkscape to import clipart from the openclipart library but it is unable to determine what file type it is importing, sometimes resulting in the imported clipart being a png instead of svg. The devs have suggested that this is a problem with OCAL

Closing all openclipart bugs as openclipart is now on launchpad, as per request from  Jon Philips.
