When I press the power button to come back from the hibernation, the login splash screen comes up instead of the anticipated "Locked splash screen". When I log in as the same user as I had when I hibernated, it's a fresh desktop. As well, I noticed that NetworkManager Applet GUI icon in the top left notes it is disabled and I did not disable this before I hibernated. Standby works flawlessly everytime.
"Downgraded" to Ubuntu 9.10 w/ ext4, suspend and hibernate works perfectly. Current solution to this bug is to use Ubuntu 9.10.
I successfully hibernated after following the nomodeset recommendation for GRUB2 found at: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LucidLynx/ReleaseNotes It mentions changing a line from /etc/default/grub to: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="nomodeset" I saved the file, ran sudo update-grub, then I was able to hibernate successfully.
I got a little over-zealous on placing this in a resolved status and marking myself assigned to make the fix. The only thing I have been able to do is successfully hack/work around the issue. In addition, GNOME-applets upstream believes the hack/work around manifested the following GNOME-applets Trash Icon visual glitch bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-applets/+bug/588100
Freshly installed Lucid, fully updated, (ex. updating to the newest versions of pm-utils and gnome-panel) and made an fsarchived backup of the install. Then, performed 4/4 successful hibernations consecutively with different apps open. However, after restarting a few times the trash bin became glitched just like in the screen shot. I restored the fsarchive, and restarted a few times but the glitch did not happen. At this point this bug is considered tentatively closed but will re-bug if it happens again. apt-cache policy pm-utils pm-utils: Installed: 1.3.0-1ubuntu2 Candidate: 1.3.0-1ubuntu2 Version table: *** 1.3.0-1ubuntu2 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-updates/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1.3.0-1ubuntu1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages apt-cache policy gnome-panel gnome-panel: Installed: 1:2.30.2-0ubuntu0.1 Candidate: 1:2.30.2-0ubuntu0.1 Version table: *** 1:2.30.2-0ubuntu0.1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-updates/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:2.30.0-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages
The same glitch occurred while powering up from a clean shutdown in fresh Ubuntu 10.04 install, fully updated.
Upgraded to Maverick, restarted and trash bin had became visually glitched. lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu maverick (development branch) Release: 10.10 apt-cache policy gnome-applets gnome-applets: Installed: 2.30.0-3ubuntu2 Candidate: 2.30.0-3ubuntu2 Version table: *** 2.30.0-3ubuntu2 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status apt-cache policy gnome-panel gnome-panel: Installed: 1:2.30.2-1ubuntu3 Candidate: 1:2.30.2-1ubuntu3 Version table: *** 1:2.30.2-1ubuntu3 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-radeon xserver-xorg-video-radeon: Installed: 1:6.13.1-1ubuntu4 Candidate: 1:6.13.1-1ubuntu4 Version table: *** 1:6.13.1-1ubuntu4 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status apt-cache policy libdrm-radeon1 libdrm-radeon1: Installed: 2.4.21-1ubuntu2 Candidate: 2.4.21-1ubuntu2 Version table: *** 2.4.21-1ubuntu2 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status apt-cache policy radeontool radeontool: Installed: 1.6.1-1 Candidate: 1.6.1-1 Version table: *** 1.6.1-1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
