Description Bryce Harrington 2011-02-16 17:21:01 UTC
Forwarding this bug from Ubuntu reporter Alex Launi:
http://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xkeyboard-config/+bug/526163

Under 'CapsLock key behavior' there are the options; Make CapsLock and additional backspace, Make CapsLock an additional ESC, Make capslock an additional Hyper, Make CapsLock an additional NumLock, Map CapsLock an additional Super.

But Make CapsLock an additional Control is sadly missing, and exists under the Control key position category. These categories are not mutually exclusive, so it's a little bit confusing as to where to find this option. Not a serious bug, but a small usability issue.

I poked a bit at adding a copy of the option under the "CapsLock key behavior" section, but couldn't get it to work (my xkb ignorance is likely the blame).

I don't know if there is a policy regarding having the same option in multiple places. Given the quantity of options already present, I could see such a policy making this a WONTFIX. On the other hand, the reporter has a point that the option seems like it belongs in both sections.

Yes, you are right - the whole stack is not designed to put one option into 2 groups. So I am marking this as WONTFIX. Or we can discuss _moving_ the option to another group - but I do not think it would be much better than current location.

Thanks, yeah suspected as much.

I think arguments could be made either way whether it should be under Control or Caps Lock, but those favoring moving it doesn't seem compelling enough to justify the trouble of changing it.
