Description vitriol 2011-05-06 23:55:36 UTC
The new shadow in Writer is almost invisible on my Win7 system. I think that the default colors for shadow and background are too similar.
Comment 1 Noel Power 2011-05-09 04:49:47 UTC
I see the same on xp, I have sent a mail to Sébastien Le Ray ( author of the patch ) to see if he might be interested to help with fixing this
Comment 2 Sébastien Le Ray 2011-05-09 05:16:51 UTC
Could you please give a screen shot for that?

Did you see any difference when setting a custom color into appearance settings?

Default colors are different into appearance settings, but very similar on most displays.

Would black be a better default choice? (change it to black in appearance settings and tell me if it's better)
Comment 6 vitriol 2011-05-12 03:14:09 UTC
Black seems slightly better, but the general effect of this shadow IMHO is not very aesthetically pleasing.
I have also noticed a probable refresh defect of the shadow when the top or bottom of the page is scrolled out of view, and back again.

That's the same shadow than the Draw one…

This have been fixed some time ago in master

But Draw has a white background :-)

It was integrated into 3.4 Beta 5?

Nice shot :-)
I don't think a white background would be suitable for writer…
The shadow can be easily modified by someone from the design team (or anybody else), it's the file named page-shadow.png in write resources.

I've absolutely no idea. I guess it should since I provided all patches at once…

It's a little problem, but visible. See attached screenshots.

Shadow1.png -> OK
Shadow2.png -> After page scrolling

Screenshots comparing shadow in Presentation and Writer

With "LibreOffice 3.4Beta5 – WIN7 Home Premium (64bit) German UI [DEV300m103 (Build:5)]" shadow visibility in WRITER still is much worse than in Presentation. I also see that "little visual problem".

I assign to you due to facts. Please feel free to reassign if you do not want to be the assignee.

More visible in version 3.6 with the new default lighter background color. It can be closed?
Comment 16 Adolfo Jayme 2012-07-24 17:28:49 UTC
OK, this has been "fixed" in 3.6 as a side effect of the UI polishing work. While the shadow's color hasn't been changed, the document background is lighter now, and the shadow is actually visible.
