Problem description: On windows : Quickstater really speedup the startup when creating new document using the tray icon but not using the desktop or start menu icon. Looking in the task manager I saw that a new instance of soffice.exe/soffice.bin is created each time Steps to reproduce: 1. Enable quickstarter in Options and restart LibreOffice to view the libreoffice tray icon. 2. Try create a new document from the tray icon : it's fast and look into the task manager, only one instance of soffice.exe/soffice.bin 3. Try to open LibreOffice using the desktop icon or by double clicking on a ODS file : it's slow and look in the task manager a new instance of soffice.exe/soffice.bin is working and disappearing when the window appears. Current behavior: Don't reuse an allready started soffice instance. so startup is always slow Expected behavior: Must reuse the allready started soffice instance to speed up Platform (if different from the browser): Windows XP Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux i686; rv:10.0.2) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/10.0.2
My fault, this bug has been solved in 3.5, I was testing on 3.4.4
The problem still exists in libreoffice 3.5. Startup time is shorter than in 3.4.4 but Quickstarter isn't used when I try to open a existing document by double-clicking on it or using the desktop icon
The bug is still here in LibreOffice 3.6 This speed problem is a major obstable to migrate from MS Office to LibreOffice, I think it should be taken in consideration. If the quickstart tray icon is started, opening a file by double-clicking on it should do the same as using the open function from tray icon. Starting a new scalc instance from Windows Start menu should do the same as using "new spreadsheet" from tray icon
Created attachment 67476 [details] Proof of concept to open file using quickstarter from file explorer Attached a proof of concept to open file using quickstarter from file explorer Tested on LibreOffice 3.6 but should work on any release To use it, execute install_LO_faststart.cmd to made change in windows registry and simply try to open a file by double-clicking in Windows Explorer To restore the registry, simply execute uninstall_LO_faststart.cmd
